30. Are You Doing Enough for Your Kids?

I have a client who recently expressed worry that she isn’t doing enough for her kids, an example of how we set ourselves up to be spinning and anxious. How do you know when you have or haven’t done enough?

The real fear around whether or not you’re doing enough for kids is the fear that if something goes wrong in the future, you will hold yourself accountable for it. However, it’s important to remember that kids are humans and are going to live human lives that we can’t control. At the end of the day, you’re the only one who gets to decide what is enough and what it means to be a good parent.

We need to promise ourselves that we will keep all of this in mind and not make ourselves feel inadequate in the future, even when something out of our control goes wrong. The absolute best that we can ever do for our children is to model for them what it means to be a self-actualized and loving human being and parent.
