Your mind is not so mysterious.
There are things we don’t understand.
I like to make lots of room for the mysteries of life…things that are perhaps not unknowable, they’re just unknown to me or to our species, maybe not forever, but now.
I think we are on the verge of understanding the nature of our minds much more deeply. What seems enigmatic today will be common knowledge in 100 years.
Here’s something we do know now: Our minds create thoughts. We have the ability to choose them deliberately but mostly we don’t. 95% of what we think is just reactive, repetitive streaming. They are our Thinking Machines. It’s like we were endowed with the top-of-the-line luxury race car but we’ve never even had drivers’ ed. We don’t know how to drive it and we’re a little afraid of it.
I happen to be sitting in a coffee shop called The White Bison so here we go. Try this: Think of a white bison….okay now think of a baby bison….now think of a herd of bison. Now think, “It would be so cool to see a white bison in the wild.”
There. That’s you thinking on purpose. You’re conjuring up images and sentences. On demand.
You can do this much more often with things that matter to you. You can direct your mind to serve your intentions.
You just haven’t learned how.
It takes practice to change your thinking patterns, but the process isn’t a mystery.
