2. How to Stop Worrying
Welcome back to Our Modern Emotional Lives where I, behavior change specialist and coach Sheila Tully, talk about mental and emotional health and how to rewire our brains so that we are happier and healthier. If you are someone who tends to do a lot of worrying, then this episode is for you because that is exactly what I am covering today – worrying and how to stop doing it.
Believe it or not, worrying is not necessary. It masquerades as necessary, but it serves no purpose in our lives. There is, of course, a natural reason why we do it. Our brains use instinct and knowledge to anticipate the future in an effort to keep us alive and safe, but most of the time, what we worry about is irrational and, again, is not doing anything to make our lives any better, so what can we do about it?
Simply put, worry is primitive fear. Our imaginations can be very powerful because our brains are always looking for danger. It might seem easier said than done to stop worrying, but I offer you five steps that you can to start getting rid of it, and I even provide a real-life example. Use worrying as a signal. Be aware of it, but don't let it control you.
