Self Doubt

Self-doubt is healthy and it’s uncomfortable. I think we have this idea that if we’re on the right path we won’t doubt ourselves, that we will feel certain and guided. But that’s not true.

When we grow or do something new, we doubt ourselves—our ability to change, to succeed, to not quit. That’s normal. So if it’s normal, why does it feel like it’s standing in our way like a boulder that can’t be moved? It’s because we believe it like it’s the truth. We think we’ve accumulated all this evidence that is telling us “our truth”…that we can’t do it because we’ve tried before and failed. But if you can learn to handle the uncomfortable emotions that are part of doing new things, you can stop believing your self-doubt as some kind of mystical truth.

On the other side of every accomplishment is so much more confidence. And that feeling of confidence creates more desire to grow. And growth creates more self-doubt. It’s part of the deal. But you know what hurts even more than self-doubt? Stagnation. Knowing you are so much more capable than the current results of your life. Learn to doubt your doubt. You are designed to grow.
