Social Media is Not Terrible
When our minds are unsupervised, we think we live at the effect of the circumstances of our life. We think life is happening to us. But in reality, the circumstances of our life are neutral. It’s how we interpret them that makes them “good” or “bad.”
Social media is not inherently good or bad. Social media companies create a product/platform that we can choose to consume or not. Just like Doritos, McDonalds French fries, and margaritas, social media platforms are designed to grab your attention and keep you wanting more. They are also designed to communicate with friends, keep you updated and share your life. You get to decide how you want to interact with these products and you do that by supervising your own primitive brain.
Don’t make the mistake of blaming society’s ills on social media. It gives too much power to these companies. Know that you, and yes even your kids, can train your brains to establish your own relationship with social media (and fast food and alcohol and Amazon Prime). Your human brain is vastly more powerful than any company.
